Fiberglass mesh non-adhesive joint tape is a high-strength reinforcement tape woven from E-glass or medium-alkali glass fibers in a leno weave structure, with no pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. It is designed for crack prevention and joint reinforcement in drywall installation, wall construction, and ceiling systems.
Difference from Self-Adhesive Mesh Tape
Self-adhesive mesh tape has a built-in pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that allows direct application to wall surfaces. Non-adhesive mesh tape does not have this adhesive layer and must be fixed by “wet embedding” — pressing the tape into wet joint compound, putty, or white latex so it bonds as the material cures.
Application Steps (Drywall Joints / Wall Crack Prevention)
Surface Preparation: Clean the drywall joint or wall crack to remove dust, loose particles, and oil stains. Ensure the surface is clean and dry.
Pre-fill Base Material: Apply an appropriate amount of joint compound or base coat putty into the joint gap.
Embed Mesh Tape: While the putty is still wet, press the cut-to-length fiberglass mesh non-adhesive joint tape into the center of the joint compound. Use a putty knife or scraper to press firmly, embedding the tape fully into the putty and squeezing out excess material.
Cover with Top Coat: After the base layer dries, apply a finish coat of putty or joint compound over the tape to fully cover and smooth it.
Sand and Level: Once completely dry, sand the surface smooth with sandpaper. Proceed with primer, latex paint, or other wall finishing.
